What is Politics? Politics is the art or science of government or governing a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs. That means Politics is a part of everyone's life and has a mark in each and everyone's identity. It is a part of our society and our culture. That is why it is important to compare politics.
Through Comparative Politics, it can help avoid ethnocentrism in countries in which it promotes inequality and discrimination. Also it can help us understand how a country is similar or different to another country especially that as we know, politics is affected and is changing depending on the varying cultures and the peoples' different point of views regarding the political system. Comparing politics can also observe the countries performance when it comes to their economy because we can really see through it if a country's politics or government has an effective leadership.
One of the interesting politics that we can compare to others is the politics of Japan. What makes it more interesting is their claim of having a unique political system, that they do not have similarities with other countries when it comes to politics. Japan is the only country headed by an Emperor but he does not have a political power. The Emperor only perform ceremonial duties and the one who holds the power is the Prime Minister. Like any other politics, Japan's politics also have its good and bad side. It's not what we always thought it is to be. Japan's politics also has corruption but it is very interesting to know that even if they have controversies in their politics like corruption, they're still a superpower country and they have a very good economy that can support and give benefits to its people. Another is that, when their leaders became shameful of their acts, they will go down from their position because honor is important for them.
Therefore, Comparative Politics is important to open each and every person's mind and making them aware in what's happening in their political system. Also, it can help us understand how or what other countries think about their politics. Studying and understanding Japan's politics can help us know or clarify whether their claim, that their politics is unique, is true or not. Plus we can use the comparative politics in studying Japan.
