10 Step Skincare: Mentholatum Acnes Gel Review
Monday, February 26, 2018
You know when book series have some novella or story inserts in between certain book numbers? That's how I see this gel. It's one of my constants and it's one of those I will always replenish whenever I have the chance. Giiiiiirl, I hoard this sh*t! You can just imagine how battered this tube gets when I use it because I really make sure to get every last drop.
Who here don't experience acne breakouts? I'm sure most of you are and this little tube can help dry 'em up really fast. When I get those annoying zits before, during, or after that time of the month or whenever my skin feels like purging, I cling on to my tube of Mentholatum Acnes Gel like my life depends on it.
Let's get down to the basics! This gel will surely do the following:
- Sulfur: Promotes sebum secretion through the keratin softening action.
- Isopropylmethylphenol: Protects from acnegenic bacteria through the anti-bacterial action.
- Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate: Suppresses inflammation through the anti-inflammatory action and prevents acne.
- Vitamin E and Vitamin B6: Prevents acne and skin roughness by suppressing sebum oxidation and increasing metabolism.

What I do is after I apply my toner, I will get a pea size of the gel and put it in areas on my face where there's acne. Then I let my skin absorb it's goodness before I proceed to another step.
VERDICT:
It really works on my skin especially when I need to alleviate some swelling and I need some bumps to get flat ASAP. But of course, it depends on what type of pimple you are dealing with. This is effective on Papules, Pustules, and Nodules. You can really see the gradual difference. With cystic acne, it really can take a while but it does help, I assure you. There's a bit of stinging sensation which is really tolerable and it just means it works. When it comes to the scent, if you are very particular, the gel has a sort of sulfuric or medical smell to it but it's mild and not overwhelming.
Recommended usage:
- Use it twice a day. But in the morning, make sure to wear sunscreen after.
- Make sure your hands are clean before applying--because it defeats the purpose of killing the bacteria.
- Use it when you have small bumps, when you're breaking out, or when your hormones are acting up.
I'm keeping this short since I only have two photos plus 14% on my laptop battery. But I do hope you can try this product. It's really worth it! I'm not sure where you can find it here in the Philippines but you can try looking for it online or ask someone you know who's going to Japan to get it for you. But lately, it's really hard to find so I wish you luck in getting your hands on this! Anyway, I hope this helps you on your journey in finding the right products for your acne-prone skin and I hope you like my new layouts because I'm really trying to create different variations due to my lack of sources and elements! LOL! Don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments below!
